Trillium Health Resources is set to manage mental health, substance misuse treatment, and disability services for low-income residents in 46 counties of southeastern North Carolina, including Bladen, Columbus, Robeson, and Scotland, following a merger with Eastpointe and Sandhills Center. Beginning February 1, Trillium will broaden its reach to serve 3.1 million residents by adding 18 counties to its care remit. Under the consolidation, current Medicaid recipients with these organizations will retain their care with new ID cards and a welcome packet sent by Trillium. Following the state’s decision to expand Medicaid, an anticipated 600,000 additional individuals are expected to join the program, strengthening care availability for residents. Amidst last year’s state budget negotiations, managed care organizations’ authority drew considerable attention, with health advocates stressing service accessibility. Trillium, set to receive an annual $2.5 million budget for the coming two years, will absorb Eastpointe’s designated funding, while Secretary Kinsley of the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services aims to reduce managed care entities to improve behavioral health services. The merger, leaving North Carolina with four managed care organizations, marks a significant shift from a decade ago when the state had 11 such entities. For further clarification on the merger, Trillium has arranged virtual information sessions and provided communication channels for public inquiries.
