Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), acting on behalf of its CI V flagship fund, has acquired Liberty Renewables, a company owning a portfolio of renewable energy projects in New York. Liberty Renewables’ pipeline includes approximately 1.3GW of onshore wind projects. Legal advisor Orrick facilitated the deal, continuing their long-standing relationship with CIP. CIP, the world’s largest dedicated greenfield renewable energy fund manager, manages 12 funds with €28 billion raised from over 160 institutional investors globally. CIP’s fifth flagship fund, CI V, is rapidly becoming the largest of its kind with a target size of €12 billion and includes a diversified portfolio of renewable energy infrastructure projects. The Liberty portfolio will support New York’s decarbonization goals, with the inaugural project slated to start construction in 2026. This acquisition is part of a broader trend of large funds focusing on substantial portfolio deals.
