The New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) has launched a request for proposals (RFP) to find a sponsorship agency consultant to secure the first-ever naming rights sponsorship for the NYC Ferry system. This initiative is part of Mayor Eric Adams’ NYC Ferry Forward plan aimed at creating a more equitable, accessible, and financially sustainable ferry system. The NYC Ferry, which serves over 7 million riders annually, plans to enhance revenue streams to lower the per-passenger subsidy. Once a sponsorship consultant is selected, NYCEDC aims to attract a brand partner by late 2024, with negotiations intended for 2025. Under the Ferry Forward initiative, the system has already reduced the per-passenger subsidy to $8.55 and has set record ridership levels. The RFP intends to find a consultant with experience in securing naming rights partnerships and a commitment to M/WBE (Minority/Women-Owned Business Enterprise) plans among other criteria. The RFP process is open through July 25, 2024.
