Amedisys has announced that its $3.29 billion merger with UnitedHealth Group is set to complete in the second half of 2024. The merger, which was publicly revealed in a Friday SEC filing, will involve divesting certain home healthcare centers to VitalCaring Group, a Dallas-based home health and hospice company. The details on the number and locations of the centers to be sold were not disclosed. The divestment is intended to satisfy federal antitrust regulators, facilitating the merger. UnitedHealth agreed to acquire Amedisys for $101 per share in June 2023, and subsequent to the merger, Amedisys will continue as a wholly-owned subsidiary of UnitedHealth, maintaining offices in Baton Rouge and Nashville. Following the SEC filing, Amedisys shares rose by $1.60 in after-hours trading, closing at $93.46.
