The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has approved a notable merger in the textile yarn sector, involving the acquisition of up to 29.43% shareholding of Gatron (Industries) Ltd by Nova Frontiers Ltd. Nova Frontiers, a Pakistani public unlisted company, is engaged in diversified investment activities, whereas Gatron is a public listed company known for manufacturing polyester filament yarn and polyethylene terephthalate (PET). The CCP’s Phase I competition assessment determined that the transaction will not alter the market share of Nova Frontiers in the relevant markets, thereby passing scrutiny under Section 31 of the Competition Act, 2010. This approval is seen as a strategic move to bolster the growth and sustainability of Pakistan’s textile industry, promoting the availability of innovative products to meet contemporary market demands.
