American Industrial Partners (AIP), a global industrials investor, has announced that it acquired a majority ownership stake in Aker BioMarine’s Feed Ingredients business. This newly established Aker BioMarine Antarctic Holding II AS will be owned 60% by AIP and 40% by Aker ASA via its subsidiary, Aker Capital AS. The Feed Ingredients segment is the world’s only industrial-scale krill harvester with operations including three Antarctic harvesting vessels and shoreside operations in Uruguay. Headquartered in Oslo, Norway, the company employs around 450 staff. The acquisition aims to leverage AIP’s maritime and aquaculture expertise to advance the growth of krill-based products that are increasingly valued for their nutrient-rich benefits in both animal and human nutrition. Legal counsel for the transaction included Wikborg Rein Advokatfirma AS, Ropes & Gray LLP, and Baker Botts L.L.P for AIP, with Arctic, Carnegie, and Rabobank serving as financial advisors for Aker BioMarine.
