Qatar Airways Group has acquired a 25% stake in South African regional carrier Airlink, aiming to bolster its operations across the African continent. This strategic investment, which enhances an already established code-sharing partnership, will help Qatar Airways further its Africa growth strategy. Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, CEO of Qatar Airways Group, expressed confidence in both Airlink and the potential of the African market. Airlink CEO Rodger Foster highlighted the benefits of the equity partnership, including network expansion and increased capacity. The deal also includes alignment of the loyalty programs of both airlines. Qatar Airways currently flies to 29 African destinations and has been proactive in its expansion strategy since 2019, including a major stake in a new international airport in Rwanda and multiple codeshare agreements.
