Vertex Ventures, backed by Singapore’s state investment arm Temasek Holdings, recently finalized its fifth fund, focusing on India and Southeast Asia with a capitalization of $541 million. Partner Kanika Mayar outlines an ambitious expansion in the number of annual transactions in India, increasing from four to five deals to six to eight under Fund V. Additionally, the strategy will broaden to sectors such as healthcare, mobility, and sustainability. This new fund highlights a significant emphasis on healthcare technology, driven by post-COVID needs for better healthcare infrastructure. Geographically, Vertex is also incorporating Japan into its investment domains, leveraging technological advancements and high-income potential to scale portfolio companies into existing Southeast Asian and Indian markets. For exits, the firm balances between IPOs, M&A, and secondary sales based on market opportunities.
